Q&A with our Taproom & Warehouse Assistant, Sam!

Welcome to our next Q&A! This interview is featuring our very own Sam Bird.

Sam started with us in June 2021 working part time behind the bar, and then joined us full time in February 2022 as our Taproom & Warehouse Assistant, working across the bar and brew team. Sam loves learning new languages, travelling to new places and listening to Deftones.

First of all - what's your favourite Phantom beer so far?

That’s a tough one. I’d have to go with End of Summer, as it was absolutely delicious!

What style of beer do you want to see more of?

Hazy, juicy, thick IPA’s. Love them.

You’re creating a playlist for The Haunt, who has to be on it?

I recently added a couple of Silverstein tracks to The Haunt playlist because I love the riffs…gotta have the riffs, man! That and Charli XCX, of course.

How many slices of bacon makes a good bacon sandwich?

I’m not fussed cos I don’t like bacon. If I have bacon, it has to be crispy and streaky. None of that medalion nonsense. In a sandwich, with the soft bread and juice and grease, it goes all soggy. Turns my stomach. BARF.

Favourite thing about working in beer?

I know a few have said this already, but the people you work with make such a difference. There’s nothing better than working with like minded creative people that also know how to make you laugh and have a good time.

If the hills did have eyes, what would they see?

That sexy Weeknd song from 2015. [He then proceeded to sing it]. Wait, did you say see? I thought you said sing…wait don’t put that. Did you add that?

What beer destination is top of your list to visit?

I’d love to go and see Overtone in Scotland. Outside the UK, I think Omnipollo is top of everyone’s list and maybe Garage in Spain.

In what year will Teenage Dirtbag not be relevant?

Like, minus 10. Can’t stand it. But I’ll still sing along and harmonise every line. Don’t put that.

What do you want to see more of in the beer industry?

I want to see more groovy taprooms, with something that brings excitement to the atmosphere.

Did someone say...beer?

Yeah, you just now. And me also - beer.

You can find Sam at the taproom chatting with our regulars or telling newcomers about our latest releases. When he’s not busy with beer, Sam is an actor - so if you don’t catch him at the tappy, you might see him on Netflix…
